SyFy has posted an exclusive look in to NECA studios and what it took to bring the 1990’s movie version of the turtles to life.

In the exclusive article, we get a look at what it takes to bring this version of the turtles from our memories to our toy shelves! The pictures are great and it’s a must read for anyone interested in TMNT, toy design, or anyone who likes hearing stories about making things.

As a bonus, as you flip through the pictures, we get a look at upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures based on the Foot Clan and Shredder.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Interviews and promos

The cast of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been hard at work promoting the new show.

First, from SyFy, the cast gets quizzed on classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys.

There was a lot of weird stuff in the 80’s and 90’s

Next, WWE’s AJ Styles teaches Raphael some new moves.

He’s helping beat up John Cena, the voice of Baron Draxum.

 

 

And finally, Nickelodeon has released a video where we get to learn a bit more about the new, glowing weapons the use.

It’s a great glimpse in to the direction of this version of the turtles.

UNBOXED! – TMNT Box September 2018

The September TMNT Box is here!

This was my favorite TMNT Box yet! It had a clear theme and offered a bit more variety then usual. It had something Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans of all ages can really enjoy. Funko DC MyMoji Blind Bag Vinyl Figures

I’m a sucker for a blind box mystery bag. Even if I have no where to put them, I need to know whats in the bag. However, I haven’t been excited about anything based on emojis. Pins, movies, and now vinyl figures, I just can’t get in to it. However, Funko always makes a great collectible. It’s a bit weird to have DC characters in a TMNT box, but it makes sense with the overall theme.

Michelangelo 2″ Kawaii Plush Cube


This small plush features our favorite party dude, Michelangelo! I missed out on the rest of the series that was released a while back, but this is still a fun addition to the collection. I love that if you do collect any others, they are stackable! It’s a great feature for anyone with a clutter or tiny apartment issue. If you missed out on the rest of the collection (like me), they’re still available on the TMNT Box Shop.

Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover comic!

I really love this mini-series. Two incredible franchises collide as Batman meets the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In my box, I got issue #1 of volume 2, but you may have gotten issue #6 of volume 1. Either way, check out the rest of the series. The artwork from Freddie Williams II is a fantastic depiction and, from what I’ve read so far, the story from James Tynion IV is great. I’m excited to continue the series with Volume 2!

Kraang Pin

Kraang? Krang? Either way, pins are always an appreciated bonus in any mystery box.

This was my favorite TMNT Box to date! I love that everything was officially licensed and I love the crossover aspect. Every item in this month’s box is a quality product from a trusted brand. The comic is a great addition, and even came well potected.

NYCC 2018 TMNT Checklist

New York Comic Con is less than a month away!

There’s a lot to do and see, and as NYCC approaches, that leaves a lot to miss! Don’t worry, Shell-Heads! I’ve compiled a checklist just for fans of Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles to make sure you get the most out of the biggest convention on the East Coast. This is just part 1! We’ll do another closer to the actual convention.

Commissions

Artist Alley is such an important part of NYCC and all comic conventions. All of the video games, media, movies, and the convention itself wouldn’t be there if not for the comics. Being an artist might seem super awesome, but the artists work extremely hard to tell a visual story in comics. This site and your toys, movies, and collections would not exist if not for the comic book from Eastman and Laird.

I think it’s important to support your favorite artists. Many of the artists at Artist Alley take commissions! It always ranges in price, but you can ask some of your favorite artists to create original artwork for you! Check out the Artist Alley page and look up some of your favorite artists. Reach out and see if you can get some original artwork!

So far, the only TMNT artists I spotted are Billy Martin and Corey Smith. Ben Bishop is great too, but I’m not sure if he’s attending yet. But! You can absolutely ask most artists to draw any character you’d like!

Last year I started getting different Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character commissions from different artists. I’ll show you what I got this year after it’s done.  In the meantime, check out what I got last year! Marcio Takara did April O’ Neil and Ben Templesmith did April and Casey Jones. (It was for my engagement to my fiancee.) The picture doesn’t do them justice.

Exclusives

So many exhibitors want you to look their way and spend their hard earned money with them. Some things you can ONLY get at conventions, and NYCC is no different!

Funko

Funko puts their highly sought after exclusives in the hands of the lottery. At time of this writing, no exclusives for Funko have been announced. Lotteries will open September 13.

Zen Monkey Studios

Our friends at ZenMonkey Studios are always good for exclusive pins! In addition to Rick and Morty, Spongebob Squarepants, and Mystery Science Theater 3000, they have an amazing line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Exclusives. Here are some Instagram teasers they posted.

Panels

Nickelodeon is promoting Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a big way! Here’s a bit of info from the press release.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Friday, 10/5, 4:15-5:15 p.m. (Location: Javits Center, Main Stage)

Rise up! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back in the next mutation of New York’s half-shell heroes.  Join us as we celebrate the latest incarnation of The Turtles.  Featuring Omar Miller (Ballers) as Raph, Josh Brener (Silicon Valley) as Donnie, Brandon Smith (You’re the Worst) as Mikey and Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries) as April.  Joining the cast are co-executive producers, Andy Suriano and Ant Ward, and legendary voice director Rob Paulsen. Panel highlights will include never-before-seen clips from the series, special guests and exclusive giveaways.

No word yet on IDW comics panels, but I’ll let you know if any come up.

Booths

The booths are so much fun. Even just wandering around to see what’s coming up in the future. Some booths have giveaways and prizes. Some are definitely worth planning out if you’re a fan of TMNT. I’m assuming you are.

Nickelodeon

Again, they really want RotTMNT to succeed. And if you’re a fan of the franchise, you should want it to succeed as well! Here’s some of what they have going on all weekend.

Daily Booth Activity:

  • Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Experience: Attendees can step inside the Turtles’ secret lair under the streets of New York City for a gif opportunity.

  • The Loud House Photo Opp. Enter the Loud family’s living room, sit on the couch and take a group photo with Lincoln Loud and his 10 sisters.

 

  • Costumed-Character Appearances: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will make appearances at Nick’s booth at select times during the convention.

 

  • Giveaways:  Enter for a chance to win special prizes over the course of the convention

Sideshow Collectibles

Their booth is always an attraction. They showcase what’s coming up for the famed figure and statue brand. They will have exclusives, but even if you don’t want to spend the money on a figure of your own, it’s still worth checking out. If I had to guess, we might get a look at the other 3 brothers, or at least Raph.

IDW

IDW puts out the longest running, and arguably BEST comic series in TMNT history. No word on exclusive comic covers yet, but their booth sells any books they release. Now is your chance to get a rare variant cover or a hardcover book for your collection! There’s a rumored TMNT board game coming to Kickstarter in October, so maybe we’ll even get a peek at that!

Signings

The cast of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be doing signings at the IDW booth.

What we learned from the “Rise of the TMNT” Trailer and Sneak Peek from SDCC

Nickelodeon gave us a trailer and sneak peak at the new series, “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

There was a lot to unpack, so here are some of the biggest takeaways from the SDCC preview!

Their eyes white out when they get serious

I thought this was a nice touch. It seems like an intentional ode to their comic book origins.

 

The villains seem bigger and meaner

There seems to be a more mystical side to this series. The enemies appear to be evolved mutants. The days of the bumbling bad guys appear to be over.

Seriously, this thing is made of nightmares.

Could this be a mutated mouser?

 

 

The turtles have their original weapons at some point

Check this out, the turtles are shown with their usual weapons. But after taking some heavy damage from their enemies, Raph suggests…

“Hey! How about the glow-y ones?!”

Donatello does machines

We got a really good look at the different shells Donatello uses throughout the show. Giant laser guns and helicopter shells are awesome displays so far.

Meatsweats power

The turtles aren’t the only ones with mystic powers. Here, we get a good look at Meatsweats power. It looks like he just regenerates in to smaller Meatsweats!

Mousers?

Are these guys mousers? I mean they look like mousers with extra arms. right?

More Donnie, who could be much more of a comic relief in this series than others.

Great Action!

I thought it was a fantastic trailer that gave us tons of new insight on the direction of the new series. It looks like it’ll be fast and deal much more with the supernatural side.

This is also where Nickelodeon told us the premiere will be Monday, September 17!

Next up was the sneak peek. This is where we get our first glimpse of a full, uncut scene! We learn a ton about the animation style, character design for the non man characters, and the environment.

 

The turtles appear to keep watch over a dimly lit city.

We get a look at their special ops missions.

I don’t know what Molina Tower is…yet.

This is a great shot, only for their decisions on the color palette. I love that Leonardo’s markings still show, even in the shadows.

He is where we get our first look at the turtles mindset, as well as a noticeable amount of lens flare.

Certain movements and animation choices remind me of early Cartoon Network and Nicktoons. The motion is almost reminiscent of Hanna Barbara cartoons.

Johnny Bravo and Powerpuff Girls seem like huge influences for the new series.

I’ve never seen one of these signs in my life.

This is an important scene to show, because it tells us where the turtles are in their life.

It seems like they aren’t so much concerned with small time crooks anymore. They pass right over a clear bad guy (seriously, look at the goatee) to have their own pool party. Right now Raph is leader, but when things get more serious, can he handle the pressure? The turtles and April seem unconcerned with the mob and more concerned with supernatural Baron’s voiced by part-time professional wrestlers.

These are some of the things I found, but what did you notice!
