Upcoming TMNT Episodes Will Feature Usagi Yojimbo

Before anyone asks, no – this isn’t technically news. We’ve known about Miyamoto Usagi’s introduction to the series for a while now, but we didn’t know exactly when he would make an appearance. Thankfully, we can finally provide fans with the information they’ve been waiting to hear. Starting on July 23rd, the latest batch of episodes will include everyone’s favorite rabbit ronin. After years of rumors and speculation, Nickelodeon has finally given in to requests from shellheads around the world and brought Stan Sakai’s creation back to the universe of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

During these episodes, the turtles will be transported to another dimension where they will meet with Miyamoto Usagi. If the toy line being produced by Playmates is any indication, we can expect our heroes in a half shell to don the gear of real Samurai warriors at some point during this epic crossover event. Unfortunately, there aren’t many other plot details, so it’s difficult to say exactly what we can expect from the next few episodes. That being said, this promo for the event reveals several additional details!

According to some sources, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Kubo and the Two Strings) will be playing at least one role in this crossover, but we’re not quite sure where he fits into the story. Sadly, we have yet to learn who will be playing the role of Miyamoto Usagi, but I’m sure we’ll discover that information in the next few weeks. Until then, at least we know what the rabbit ronin will look like in Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m certainly excited to see what comes of this awesome Usagi Yojimbo crossover. Something tells me that they’re going to knock it out of the park!

UPDATE: We have been informed by a very reputable source that John Boyega will not be playing the role of Miyamoto Usagi. Nyambi Nyambi will offer his voice to one of the characters later in this season, but he will not be involved with this story arc. As of yet, we are unsure why IMDb has Boyega listed as the voice of Usagi Yojimbo, but according to our source, this simply isn’t the case. We’re sorry for any confusion that may have come from this mistake.

TMNT 2 Trailer Coming Out With Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

Although the turtles are fighting for shelf space in toy stores around the country, it would appear that they won’t have to fight so hard for screen time when Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases this December. That’s right, we could have the trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 in less than a month. In fact, some reports suggest that it could be here even earlier than that. Unfortunately, all we have to go on right now is Stephen Amell’s cryptic message, which is probably even more informative than Viacom will be happy with.

In a video recently posted to Youtube, Stephen Amell can be seen and heard stating that a TMNT related trailer may be dropping soon. His exact quote is as follows:

“If you’re a TMNT fan, you’re going to want to go to the theater in December for a relatively big movie that’s being released, for a fantastic trailer.”

For all we know, this could be inaccurate. However, being that Stephen Amell is the one spreading this rumor, I’d say there’s a pretty good chance that this information is accurate. Although the video title suggests that it will be shown before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Amell himself never says the words “Star Wars,” so he could be referring to an entirely different movie. With that in mind, it’s still unclear when and where we can expect to get our first glimpse at TMNT 2, although this is probably an indication that we can expect it to be released very soon.

If the TMNT 2 trailer does get released alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens, that would be a pretty big deal. Considering that the trailer for the first movie was distributed only a few months before the release of the film, the mere fact that a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 trailer could drop over half a year before it officially comes out indicates that the studio has faith in the sequel. We’ve already noted that there are many reasons to be excited about this TMNT sequel, but if they’ve got enough faith in the film to release the trailer with Star Wars: Episode VII, that’s probably a good sign.

Turtley Awesome TMNT Videos: Parodies and Parkour

It’s been a while since we’ve featured some truly awesome TMNT videos, so let’s take a moment to enjoy some hilarious fun and shellraising action in this latest selection of turtley awesome videos!

Although Star Wars toys are currently taking valuable shelf space from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this holiday season, it would appear that the creators behind Nickelodeon’s TMNT series are actually quite psyched about the new Star Wars movie. In this parody video entitled “The Mutation Awakens,” Greg Cipes (Michelangelo) provides the voice work for a fake trailer that mimics the style and concept of the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The results are pretty awesome, even if it is just a bunch of clips from the past few seasons. Unfortunately, this probably wasn’t the TMNT trailer that shellheads were hoping to see – and neither is our next video.

If you’ve been clamoring for a TMNT 2 trailer, all I can say is that you are not alone. Sadly, although this is a trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, it’s not for the new movie – it’s a new trailer for the original sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze. As a matter of fact, this is known as an “Honest Trailer,” a series done by Screen Junkies which takes all of the hyperbole out of movie trailers and instead provides a more legitimate look at the films we all know and love. While some fans might find a few of the comments in this video off-putting, it’ll be difficult to deny that there are at least a few true statements made in this updated TMNT 2 trailer. After all, why couldn’t they just use their weapons? Seems kind of silly to me!

To cap off another great selection of TMNT videos, let’s take a look at some not-so-real Ninja Turtles pulling off some rather impressive moves in this Screen Team production. They may just be wearing TMNT hoodies, but that won’t stop them from performing some awesome parkour as April O’Neil watches in the shadows! There’s even a bit of story behind this music video, as April gets captured by the Shredder and the Ninja Turtles must come to her rescue. Needless to say, these guys are pretty talented and this is quite an impressive video which shows some real love for the franchise.

TMNT Loses Ground to Star Wars in Stores

Over the last few years, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have enjoyed an awesome resurgence in the world of television, film, comic books and action figures. Unfortunately, when it comes to the coveted space of toy aisles during the holiday season, some franchises are just more popular and powerful than others. Although they’ve been one of the hottest holiday items for three years in a row, TMNT toys are now being squeezed out by a new line of Star Wars toys that are hitting store shelves.

To be honest, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, because Star Wars has been one of the hottest brands in the world since before the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles even existed. That being said, it’s sad to see that Playmates and other TMNT toy manufacturers are losing valuable real estate in stores such as Target. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Target will be using 20% of the space formerly taken by TMNT merchandise in order to promote Star Wars toys instead. That’s a pretty significant chunk, but it doesn’t necessarily spell the doom and gloom of the franchise.

With a new movie coming out in 2016, the television series in its fourth season and IDW’s comic series really heating up, there is no indication that the Ninja Turtles are going anywhere anytime soon. The only reason they are losing ground this holiday season is because the Star Wars brand is so incredibly popular. Heck, I’m sure there are plenty of shellheads out there who are looking forward to the new movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens, set for release on December 18th, 2015.

As a fan of both franchises, I’m perfectly fine with the turtles making a little space for some Star Wars toys. I don’t know if Viacom will feel the same way about that, but hopefully they won’t hold it against the Ninja Turtles. With several more Star Wars properties planned in the coming future, this is only the beginning of the battle over store shelves. Hopefully both franchises manage to do well and thrive despite one being pushed to the side in favor of another.
