Nickelodeon Announces NYCC 2018 plans

Nickelodeon is pulling out all the stops for this year’s New York Comic Con!

In addition to their panel Friday at 4:15, the Nickelodeon booth will feature giveaways and costumed characters. Make sure your phone is charged, because it looks like there will be plenty of photo ops all weekend long!

In addition to their own booth, signings will also take place at the IDW booth with the cast and producers of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Friday, 10/5, 4:15-5:15 p.m. (Location: Javits Center, Main Stage)

Rise up! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back in the next mutation of New York’s half-shell heroes.  Join us as we celebrate the latest incarnation of The Turtles.  Featuring Omar Miller (Ballers) as Raph, Josh Brener (Silicon Valley) as Donnie, Brandon Smith (You’re the Worst) as Mikey and Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries) as April.  Joining the cast are co-executive producers, Andy Suriano and Ant Ward, and legendary voice director Rob Paulsen. Panel highlights will include never-before-seen clips from the series, special guests and exclusive giveaways.

Daily Booth Activity:

  • Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Experience: Attendees can step inside the Turtles’ secret lair under the streets of New York City for a gif opportunity.

  • The Loud House Photo Opp. Enter the Loud family’s living room, sit on the couch and take a group photo with Lincoln Loud and his 10 sisters.
  • Costumed-Character Appearances: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will make appearances at Nick’s booth at select times during the convention.
  • Giveaways:  Enter for a chance to win special prizes over the course of the convention.

Greg Cipes Has High Hopes For Future TMNT Projects

After five years of voicing Michelangelo on Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Greg Cipes is sad to see the series coming to an end. That being said, it would appear that he’s also very hopeful for the future of the franchise. In a recent interview with Bleeding Cool, Cipes discussed his role and Nickelodeon’s immediate plans for the future of our half-shelled heroes. Although it’s clear that he probably won’t be involved, he took this time to once again express an interest in returning when and if the network decided to produce some kind of reunion special.

“Whatever Nickelodeon wants me to do or to be a part of for the voice, of course, I’m down to be a part of it. I’m always going to support the Turtle franchise and I’m always going to be a part of the Turtle family. So that’s the best part of it, knowing that my Mikey will always live on regardless. If they want me to do something else, I’m down to do that too.”

Cipes also noted that Nickelodeon has already brought back the old-school turtles a few different times during the past 5 years, indicating that they might be interested in continuing with this pattern when Rise of the TMNT is released in 2018.

“Much like the old-school Turtles showed up on our show, I got the feeling that our Turtles are going to show up forever also, and maybe coming back as a series again as our Turtles is the best-looking version that’s ever been and the best one. And I’m not saying that because I’m in it, but because it is so.”

Needless to say, Greg absolutely loves this version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I’m sure many shellheads would disagree with him about this being the greatest iteration of the TMNT, but I’m actually inclined to agree. Regardless of his opinions, he has a point about Nickelodeon bringing back voice actors from the original animated series; if the network is willing to go that far for nostalgia, chances are that they will also be interested in bringing back the current crew several years from now.

In other words, this might not be the end for Greg Cipes, Rob Paulsen, Sean Astin and Seth Green. As Cipes said, they might even come back for a full series at some point! Even though it’s sad to see Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles come to an end, it’s nice to know that we could see them again someday. The Wanted: Bebop & Rocksteady story arc will represent the final episodes of this series, and they are scheduled to air on November 12th, 2017. New TMNT Episodes Are Being Moved to Nicktoons Channel

As much as I’ve really enjoyed this latest interpretation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there has been one major issue from the get go. Although the bulk of episodes have been easy to follow with weekly releases, others have suffered from being moved around the schedule. The latest example of this may in fact be the most egregious, as Nickelodeon has chosen to move new episodes of TMNT to their Nicktoons channel.

According to the @TMNT and @Nickandmore Twitter account, the next batch of episodes will air on Nicktoons this Friday, September 22nd. Nickelodeon has decided to release the next three episode arc as one 90-minute special featuring Raphael in a post-apocalyptic setting. This story appears to be an obvious reference to Mad Max, featuring episode titles such as “Carmageddon” and “The Wasteland Warrior.”

This sounds like a pretty awesome event, but it’s curious that Nickelodeon would choose to release it on their Nicktoons channel with so little notice. They aren’t really giving the fans a lot of time to figure out where and when they can watch the show. If you’ve become accustomed to seeing the turtles on Sunday mornings, a Friday release on another channel is going to be very unexpected.

According to some sources, Nicktoons will be the new official home of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles until the series ends. We haven’t confirmed this, but the nature of Nickelodeon’s scheduling conflicts indicates that you should be prepared for just about anything. @Nickandmore reports that the first two episodes of the monster arc will air on Wednesday, September 27th. If this information is accurate, one has to question how Nickelodeon can even call this a schedule.

Considering the success of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it is baffling to see the series get this treatment during its last season. At the very least, I’m sure we can all appreciate the fact that our heroes in a half-shell will be returning very soon. If this new schedule is accurate, we can expect the Bebop & Rocksteady episodes to finish out the season. Thanks to this odd choice of scheduling, you can actually watch these episodes right now on DVD.

Whatever happens, it’s important to remember that we’ve reached the end of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We’ll do our best to keep you informed about schedule changes so that you can watch these episodes as they air. Here’s hoping that Rise of the TMNT will have a much more organized timetable than its predecessor.

An Enlightening Interview With Greg Cipes at WonderCon 2017

WonderCon is almost always an amazing experience, and we were fortunate to have a fellow shellhead on hand at the event this year. Machelle Noel (AKA our very own April O’Neil) of GeekRockTV performed interviews with a variety of actors while attending the convention, but her discussion with Greg Cipes may have been one of the most interesting. As you may know, Cipes plays the role of Michelangelo in Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and he had a lot of interesting things to say about the fifth and final season of this series.

One of the biggest revelations was that he has written the lyrics for an Ice Cream Kitty song which will soon get its own music video. He also revealed that the series will finish off with an epic 3 part story which will wrap things up quite nicely. Afterward, he dropped a not-so-subtle hint which may have answered one of the biggest questions we’ve had for several months when saying “you never know where I’ll pop up in the new show.”

Machelle Noel tried to get some more definitive information about this, but all Cipes would say is that the amount of involvement he has with Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will depend upon the fans. It would appear that Nickelodeon may just decide to make Greg Cipes a regular on the show if the fans show enough support for him. Regardless of what comes next, he tried to reassure fellow shellheads by stating that he’ll always be Mikey where it counts and he’ll always be a part of the fan base.

After asking these questions, Noel moved on to a quickfire round of sorts which produced some pretty interesting answers. Here’s a rundown of some awesome responses from Greg Cipes himself:

  • He owns a pair of nunchucks and practices martial arts
  • The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was his favorite
  • He prefers the animated series over TMNT comics or movies
  • His favorite pizza topping is Avocado (he is a Raw Vegan)

Guest Actors for Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Revealed

During SDCC 2016, Nickelodeon revealed at least one significant guest actor who would be working on the fifth season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That actor was none other than Mark Hamill, who has been given the task of providing a voice to Kavaxas, the Demodragon of the Underworld. Surprisingly, it looks like his role will come into play very soon, as these episodes are set to air at the beginning of the next season. Now that the final year of this series has an entirely new name, Nick has seen fit to reveal some of the other voices we can expect to hear on Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Without further ado, here is the latest list of voice actors who will be guest starring at some point during the last 20 episodes of the 2k12 series:

  • Chris Sarandon as Count Dracula, the infamous vampire.
  • Nyambi Nyambi as Verminator Rex, the leader of a gang.
  • Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Sumo Kuma, a Samurai commander.
  • Graham McTavish as Savanti Romero, an evil time master from the future.
  • Dana DeLorenzo as Esmeralda, a Romanian traveler with a knowledge of monsters.

You may notice that this list is conspicuously missing one important name: Usagi Yojimbo. I’m assuming that this is because Nickelodeon has yet to discuss the character’s appearance in Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That being said, it’s pretty cool to see some of the people who have provided voices for various characters that we will see during the final season of Nick’s TMNT.

Chris Sarandon is a particularly notable name, as he has starred in such films as Fright Night and Child’s Play. You might also recognize his voice as that of Jack Skellington in The Nightmare Before Christmas! Needless to say, you couldn’t choose a better actor to portray Count Dracula. Graham McTavish may also be recognizable for his role in The Hobbit Trilogy as the Dwarf named Dwalin. He will be reprising the role of Savanti Romero, which he previously took on during the Turtles in Time episode of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The other names on this list may be a bit less familiar, but you can rest assured that they are all fairly seasoned professionals. Personally, I can’t wait to see how they introduce Dracula and Esmerelda to the universe, and I’m genuinely hopeful that this will prove to be a fun little adventure in Tales of the TMNT. Sadly, we don’t yet know who will be voicing the Rabbit Ronin, but something tells me it won’t take long before that information is revealed. At the very least, you can expect them to unveil their plans for Miyamoto Usagi either before or during SDCC 2017.
