It’s been a while since the TMNT Box was first released, and they sure have changed a lot about the product. Although the subscription box was originally $20, it has now dropped to just $9.99 per month. This decision has resulted in fewer items per shipment, but the collectibles you receive are usually worth far more than you pay for the monthly service. Last month, they decided to partner with artist John McLean in order to give the fans a truly special treat. Needless to say, the results were quite nice!April’s TMNT Box came with three items: a Casey Jones t-shirt, a Turtle Van pin and a TMNT collectible coin. The total value of these curios is approximately $32, which is pretty nice considering the low subscription fee.
Whether you’re a collector or just an average fan, chances are that something in this package will appeal to you. The note included in this box suggests that “these are the beginning perks of being loyal subscribers.” I certainly hope that is the case, because this was an excellent selection of merchandise!
Without further ado, let’s take a look at each individual item you’ll find in April’s TMNT Box.
Casey Jones T-shirt
As you can see, this is a pretty high quality shirt featuring the likeness of Casey Jones on the front. The character design appears to be based on his appearance in the original animated series.
The artist behind this TMNT shirt clearly went for a more beat up look and feel, as there are bits and pieces of the image intentionally missing. Below his mask are two crossed hockey sticks, perfectly mimicking the skull & crossbones logo which has been synonymous with danger for centuries.
Turtle Van Pin
This might actually be my favorite item in the whole package. The intricate level of detail on this Turtle Van pin are extraordinary. Heck, it even includes a tiny little “Foot Stinks” logo on the side!
Considering the popularity of collectible pins as of late, I wouldn’t be surprised if this TMNT Box exclusive becomes a hot commodity. I’m actually kind of hopeful that we’ll keep seeing items like this each month, because I would love to start a collection of TMNT pins.
TMNT Collectible Coin
Remember the slammers that were often sold alongside Pogs? This coin very much reminds me of a well crafted slammer. Each face of the coin is slightly raised, almost taking on the appearance of a button. One side features an original picture of Leonardo from the Mirage comics, while the other side reveals Master Shredder.
The outer ring of each side also includes a memorable quote from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. If you’re looking for an interesting coin to toss up for board games or other fun activities, this could work quite well.
Considering the price of only $9.99 per TMNT Box, the value of these items is pretty impressive. If you’re like me, you can always use some more Ninja Turtles gear to wear, and it’s nice to get some exclusive collectibles as well. While I really liked the $20 boxes from back in the day, they mostly included items you could find just about anywhere. As a fan of the franchise, I’m genuinely excited to see this company branching out and offering merchandise that you can only obtain through their subscription service. This adds a lot more value to the contents of the package and ensures that there may be something truly special in each box. Here’s hoping they keep up with this trend and send us even more tempting TMNT exclusives!
