There was so much going on during SDCC that a few bits of news fell through the cracks. Although several shellheads have undoubtedly already seen this, there hasn’t been much talk about it since NECA’s reveal during Comic-con. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at NECA’s latest series of collectible TMNT figures. This time around, they have decided to give some love to the lesser known villains of Dimension X – most notably General Traag and Sergeant Granitor.
These names might not sound very familiar if you’re new to the franchise, but long time fans will recognize them as Krang’s henchmen from Dimension X. The two baddies appeared early on in the 1987 animated series, and they were also boss characters in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade Game. They are joined in this collection by none other than Slash, who appeared in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project and is a very popular character from throughout the franchise.
If you were to look at only the Slash and General Traag figures, you might think that this series of collectible figures has nothing to do with the video game – but a closer look at Sergeant Granitor reveals a color scheme that was only ever seen in the arcade. Even NECA describes them as “TMNT Arcade Villains,” indicating that the choice of paint was intentional. Given that they recently released a popular series of TMNT Arcade figures, it makes sense that they would continue working with this theme.
It’s not every day that these Dimension X villains receive representation in action figure form, which makes NECA’s latest collectibles very appealing. That being said, the fact that they are also based on the TMNT arcade game is even more impressive. Shellheads who already have the other TMNT arcade figures can now add to their collection and create some pretty awesome scenes on their shelves. Even if you weren’t lucky enough to get the earlier sets, it’s nice to see characters like General Traag, Slash and Sergeant Granitor receiving a little love.
