Ace Duck Facts!

Ace Duck is… weird.

Even By Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles standards. Not so much because of his character, but because he rarely appears. He was introduced in the 1989 line of Playmates toys, but has been constantly ignored in each incarnation. Ace Duck almost appears as an easter egg (duck egg?) now, showing up in backgrounds and jokes here and there. But being one of the original 20 characters in the Ninja Turtle canon, I think it’s time we honor this running gag.

He appears in the original 1987 cartoon, but only for a second.

In season 3, episode 12, “Attack of Big MACC“, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo were watching an Ace Duck movie marathon on TV. Ace can be seen on the Turtles’ TV screen in close-up,  before Donatello changes the channel.

 

From Archie Comics

In the Archie Comics, he was a pro wrestler!

He wrestles for  Slump’s Intergalactic Wrestling circuit, of which he is reigning champion. Though he never actually fought or interacted much with the turtles themselves, he was always seen fighting in a match before the turtles would wrestle. The turtles do fight Ace’s partner, Cryin Hound. 

He’s a heel! He’s a pompous jerk who makes the crowd hate him. The first time we see Ace Duck wrestle with Leatherhead, and the second time he battled a werewolf-type monster named Bloodbath. 

In this version, he is from the planet Perdufus.

In the IDW comic series, Ace Duck is a pilot who was one of the star witnesses for Krang‘s trial during The Trial of Krang story arc.

He was never able to testify.

He does appear in the 2012 series. For a single joke.

In season 2, episode 16, it’s revealed that Ace was Baxter Stockman’s 74th attempt to make a mutant army for the Shredder. According to Stockman, he flies, swims and knows Taekwondo, but Shredder considers him completely ridiculous. He only appeared as a picture.

To date, has has never appeared in any Mirage comic series or video game.

New Kidrobot TMNT Vinyl Blind Boxes Coming Soon

These blind box Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vinyl toys must be selling well, because we’re starting to see all of the major companies with the Ninja Turtles license producing a new series for each line. Just last week we announced that there would be a new line from both Minimates and The Loyal Subjects, and now we can announce that Kidrobot will be producing another line of TMNT vinyls themselves. This series in particular is sure to be more popular with retro fans of the franchise, as it includes a bunch of characters that don’t often get much attention anymore.

As you can see in the image above, the latest series of Kidrobot TMNT vinyl blind boxes will include memorable faces such as Ace Duck, Mutagen Man, Sergeant Bananas, Rahzar and Tokka. These are characters that often get forgotten or snubbed in the world of toys and action figures, so it’s nice to see them get some representation in this line of blind box vinyls. To be honest, when I saw a new Ace Duck figure was on the way, I was absolutely shocked. Then I noticed two faces from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. Oh, and has anyone noticed that shadowy figure on the left hand side? That’s a chase figure (more difficult to find) of Metalhead.

This line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vinyl figures looks to be chock full of nostalgia, which is sure to draw in a lot of older fans. Much like the other blind box vinyls you will find, these figures are highly detailed and feature a uniquely stylized design. Kidrobot vinyls typically don’t have as many points of articulation as you will find on other TMNT toys and figures, but they look pretty nice and serve as an excellent display piece. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely interested in that Ace Duck vinyl!

Unfortunately, these mock images are all we have to go by as of yet. The plan will apparently be to release this series of Kidrobot TMNT vinyls alongside Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows this summer, so keep an eye out at your local comic book shop for these awesome TMNT blind boxes.
