If you’re familiar with the Mall of America, this news probably won’t come as too much of a shock. However, for those of you who are used to much smaller shopping centers, it might be surprising to learn that Nickelodeon has their own little theme park area located inside one of the biggest malls in the United States. Recently, Nickelodeon and Mall of America proudly announced that they are planning to set up a new Ninja Turtles thrill ride in this area for fans of all ages. Clocking in at roughly 5,000 square feet in size, this new TMNT ride is a pretty big attraction that promises to be a lot of fun.
Shredder’s Mutant Masher is set to open in the Nickelodeon Universe section of Mall of America in November of 2015. The idea behind this Ninja Turtles thrill ride is that Shredder has captured you and is going to mutate you, as he has done with so many people that have crossed him. After experiencing the narrative, you’ll get on the ride itself – which appears to be a very unique pendulum ride.
For those who are unaware, pendulum rides swing a gondola back and forth through the air. Typically, the gondola (where you would be seated) also spins during the ride, making for quite a disorienting experience. In the case of the Mutant Masher, it would appear that this pendulum ride has been outfitted with cameras that will capture the look on your face as you “mutate,” adding in special effects and mutations on the actual pictures that are produced.
This attraction is designed for fans of all ages, meaning that shellheads both young and old can enjoy the effects of mutation. Okay, so maybe you’re not actually going to get mutated, but this is probably the closest that any of us are going to come to the experience of becoming a mutant. Before you even get on the ride, you’ll enter into a queue that takes you through the experience of being caught by Shredder and brought through his lab until you reach the Mutant Masher. In other words, even while you’re waiting, this promises to be a fun and exciting thrill ride!
Shredder’s Mutant Masher will be taking the place of a recently retired attraction at Nickelodeon Universe in Mall of America. Danny Phantom’s Ghost Zone was a popular thrill ride for several years, but now that the series is over and its popularity is waning, it’s time for something new and exciting. This will be the second TMNT themed thrill ride to open at Nickelodeon Universe, joining the Shell Shock ride that opened in 2012. While Shell Shock is aimed more at fans of the turtles themselves, Shredder’s Mutant Masher is clearly designed for fans of the baddies. It’s good to see that both sides of the fandom are soon going to be represented at Mall of America!
