No, this isn’t just a fan project; the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are actually going to be teaming up with the Dark Knight himself in the pages of a crossover comic. If there were ever a crossover that you never expected to see, this would be it.
The Batman/TMNT Crossover series is set to launch in November, and if this artwork is any indication, we are in for the ride of a lifetime. Who would have thought that our heroes in a half shell would ever be seen fighting alongside the caped crusader in an official series of comics? Last year, IDW released a pretty cool TMNT/Ghostbusters crossover series, and although that may have opened the floodgates for modern TMNT crossovers, I doubt anyone could have foretold this moment in the history of the Ninja Turtles just one year later.
The Ghostbusters are a pretty iconic franchise, and their shared anniversary with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made for a very fitting team up in the four issue series. However, in the case of the Batman/TMNT crossover, the connections will more than likely be a lot more nebulous, based on shared similarities and inspirations.
The six issue series is going to be co-produced by both DC Comics and IDW, and it will be written by James Tynion IV with artwork produced by Freddie E. Williams II. You may have noticed some of that artwork on display in this article, and you can thank Comicbook.com for those excellent images. It’s always nice to see when a series that began with humble beginnings becomes big enough to warrant a crossover with one of the most popular franchises of all time. Here’s hoping this will be an awesome tale of turtles teaming up with a classic vigilante to fight evil!
