Just how much popularity have the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles regained over the past few months? Well, one needn’t look far to find that answer: just visit your local toy store. You might be surprised to find that a lot of their TMNT stock may have been depleted, with the Shellraiser van in particular being pretty hard to find. Originally sold for about $30 retail, the toy is out of stock on Wal-mart.com and fetching nearly twice the price from alternate sellers on Amazon.com.

While the toys in stores might be selling out rather quickly, McDonalds might just have you covered pretty soon! It was recently revealed on their Happy Meal site that their next line of prizes would include 8 toys based on Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. With four basic figures of the turtles and four in futuristic bikes, your kids might just be asking to go to McDonalds quite a bit in the near future. Look forward to these toys in January, as the chain is likely looking to spark some sales during one of the slower winter months.

In addition, it would appear that there is a DVD set being prepared for the new series. There aren’t many official details as of yet, but TVShowsOnDVD.com does have enough info to tease us with a potential release date of February 26th. Being that most of the more popular animated television shows (from various networks such as The Hub and Cartoon Network) have recently followed a trend of limited releases including 5-10 episodes of a show before settling on a complete season set, I’m assuming we’ll see something similar from this initial release entitled “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Rise of the Turtles.” If the name is any indication, it may just be the first few episodes for all we know. Whatever the case, fans will probably need to buy whatever they are given if they want to see anything more.

As for the new Nickelodeon show itself, it remains one of the top rated animated shows on television, reaching millions of viewers each week. In fact, the series is so popular and such a big hit for Nick that Viacom has promoted the guy who made it all possible to the position of CFO. Formerly head of Mergers and Acquisitions, Wade Davis was the man behind the deal that sent these heroes in a half shell to Viacom for a meager $64 million in 2009. Talk about a guy who really earned his promotion! Thanks to the efforts of people like him, I think it’s safe to say that the turtles are back and regaining popularity at a fast pace. Should we expect anything less from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
