This has not gone unnoticed as Leonardo discovers he’s being watched by a mysterious mutant octopus! Raphael and Alopex come face to face with a new group of mutant bikers intent on doing things their own way. Will the Road Hogs be friend or foe?

Our last issue of TMNT progressed the story ever-so-slightly but it’s main focus was delving deeper into Mutant Town to give our new environment some more dimension. It was an enjoyable departure I wouldn’t mind seeing again, but we’re here for our Ninja Turtles afterall. And in issue 110 the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we shall get.
Raph and Alopex get casual, start something over nothing with a gang of biker pigs, and Leo gets the scoop on ‘ol tentacle face. It’s clear that Sophie Campbell digs on the more calm social aspects of TMNT. We’ve traded Ninja Kicks for calm conversations and Sci-Fi elements for Furry exploration. Do I love it? No. But instead of wishing what could have been…I’m here to judge what we’re given. And things could be worse. It could be the late 1990s.
With Old Hob back in the picture, things could get interesting (and violent) real quick. As Leonardo (who I never thought could pull off the pants-look yet does) prepares to “Home Alone” the Splinter Dojo for a bad-guy-mutant invasion. Raph has sort of lost his edge as he trades in the “crude” for “dainty” over his flirtations with Alopex (are Turtles even into Foxes?) and serves up some humble pie to a cocky pig-biker via motorcycle race. All he needs is to trade the red mask for a red leather jacket and this rebel will have a cause.
I love Nishijima’s artwork compared to what we’ve been offered through Pattinson and Daniel. It has confident lines and more bold colors that make the issues simply more alluring when flipping the page. Overall, this issue was a bit of fluff. If you’re interested in Raph and Alopex’s ongoing flirtations then I’d say pick it up. Other than that, Leonardo is preparing for an ambush at the Splinter Dojo. Not a bad issue, but for completionists only.
