As we mentioned in a previous post, Nickelodeon has plans to release three different animated shorts during their SDCC 2016 panel for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. What we didn’t know at the time was that these three projects were created by at least three different people. As if that weren’t awesome enough, it looks like everyone will get a chance to check out these awesome TMNT animated shorts! Nickelodeon’s TMNT Master Twitter account recently tweeted that they would be revealing the first of three exclusive shorts on their Facebook page at 3:15 PM EST on 7/21.
So why should you be excited about three animated shorts? Well, first of all, it looks like this may be the origin of the “baby turtles” that were teased by Brandon Auman several months ago. He is one of the creators who worked on these projects, but the other two artists are equally impressive: Jhonen Vasquez and Kevin Eastman. As one of the co-creators of the Ninja Turtles, Eastman requires no introduction, but Vasquez may be a name that some of our readers do not recognize. For those who are unaware, Jhonen Vasquez is the creator of the short-lived and insanely popular Invader Zim series.
You've never seen #TMNT like this.

That’s right, they got the creator of Invader Zim to work on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles project. I don’t know about you, but this news made me squee with joy. Not only did they manage to get Kevin Eastman working on an animated short, but they also brought in Johnen Vasquez. If these two names don’t get you excited for the shorts that will most certainly be coming in the next few days, I don’t know what will. Needless to say, we’ll be sure to post those shorts here on the site if and when they become available.
Oh, and if you are familiar with Invader Zim but you have yet to read the comic book series, I can’t recommend it highly enough. The Invader Zim comics are literally the cartoon in comic book form, and they are absolutely hilarious.
UPDATE: Here is the first animated short created by none other than Jhonen Vasquez! What happens when a twisted mind takes on the turtles? Watch and find out!
UPDATE 2: All three animated shorts are now available on Nick.com. Please check their video section for Don vs Raph, Turtles Take Time and Space, and Pizza Friday!
