Just last week, Renae Jacobs was telling us how much she wished that the original voice actors had some part in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show from Nickelodeon. Well, it would appear that this is actually going to happen! In an exclusive interview with USA Today, Executive Producer Ciro Nieli let the news slip that next season will feature a one-hour special which reunites the original TMNT gang with the new CGI animated group. Sadly, there’s no news of a return for Renae’s characterization of April, but Cam Clarke, Townsend Coleman, Barry Gordon and of course Rob Paulsen have all been confirmed for the special episode.
Long time fans will already see a correlation between this one-hour special and the Turtles Forever special, which sought to combine all iterations of the Ninja Turtles into one epic cartoon. It’s nice to see that the creators of the Nickelodeon show are devoted enough to the franchise to give fans what they want, and it’s great news to hear that they’ve decided to do this awesome special episode for season two! Nieli had the following to say about the special:
“We all have a nostalgia for these characters in all their incarnations, and any time we can serve it up, we take the chance,” Nieli says. “The trick is finding a way to do it where it doesn’t feel wedged in, where you don’t even see it coming. I really like doing that stuff because I do have respect for the old stuff,” he adds. “I try not to geek out but it’s more like you just feel some pride in what you’ve been able to be responsible for. Like, yep, there they are — Turtle reunion. It’s not as cool as a Zeppelin reunion, but being able to bring something together, I’m thrilled I get to do that.”
Not as cool as a Zeppelin reunion, Ciro? I know some TMNT fans who would have to disagree with you on that! Yes, a Led Zeppelin reunion would be totally awesome, but it’s pretty darn cool to hear that there is going to be yet another Ninja Turtle reunion in the near future. As Renae expressed during her interview last week, the older fans are watching both the old and the new cartoon with their kids, so I’m sure this is going to be a huge hit across the board. What do all you Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans think about this news? Are you excited? Let us know in the comments below.

Best Turtles news so far this year! The Turtles movie news has really let me down so far (April played by Megan Fox…WHAT?)
Kamran,
You and many fans are disappointed with that news and we’re happy this news cheered you up!
Couldn’t agree with you more! Megan Fox just doesn’t fit the April O’Neal role, extremely disappointed with their choice there.
Love that the original Turtles are being brought back, absolutely just made my Friday!
We hope you enjoy your Friday and weekend Nic. Cowabunga/Booyakasha

It will be the Season 2 premier episode. You can buy it through Amazon after its released or wait for Season 2 DVD.
As a diehard fan of the original, I say with confidence that every week I love this show more and more. I can’t wait for this special.
Its going to be an interesting story to see how the old turtles meet the new turtles.
I adored “Turtles Forever”, but my one grievance was that they didn’t get the original cast to reprise their parts. I know it was an unfortunate consequence of the film being a 4Kids production, as 4Kids does not work with union voice actors, but it’s still a slight mar on what would otherwise have been perfect.
Glad to hear that oversight’s being corrected with this special. Hopefully I can catch up on the all the Nick TMNT episodes I’ve missed before it airs.
that’s not the original tmnt, the mirage comic is the original tmnt.
BOOYAKASHA! I`ll say it for everyone.. even if it sounds.. weird .
Man, this is beyond awesome! The ultimate way for parents and children to enjoy the show together. Nickelogeon is smart…
