Casey Jones is a recurring character in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books and its related movies and cartoon series. He is a masked vigilante that carries unusual weapon choices of golf clubs, hockey sticks, and baseball bats. Fans are first introduced to Casey Jones when he runs into Raphael in an altercation with some muggers. When Raphael lets the muggers go, Casey starts beating on the criminals nearly to death, but is stopped by Raphael just in time. Although there relationship is rocky in the beginning, Casey and Raphael eventually become good friends. Raphael introduces him to Splinter and the other Turtles, and he becomes part of gang. In many of the movies and related cartoons, Casey also becomes a love interest of April O’Neil, who is another good friend of the turtles.
Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I, II and III
In the first TMNT movie released in 1990, Casey Jones is played by Canadian actor, Elias Koteas. The character is introduced in a similar plot line as he was in the comics. Casey runs into Raphael in an altercation with a mugger at a park. As he lets the mugger go, Casey redirects his aggression onto Raphael and the two of them get into a fight. Casey later finds Raphael surrounded by foot soldiers and comes to his aid. After that, the two become good friends.
Interestingly enough, in the TMNT movie sequel released in 1991, there is no mention of the character, Casey Jones. Despite the fact he was a significant character in the first movie, he is completely ignored in the sequel.
Casey makes his appearance again though in the third movie. The character is once again played by actor, Elias Koteas. As with the first movie, Casey helps out the Turtles and Splinter, while also playing the role of April’s love interest. It is implied in the third movie that Casey has been gone away for a while, which would explain his absence from the second film.
Casey Jones (voice over) in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated movies
In addition to the three films from the 1990s, Casey also makes appearances on the animated movies in 2007 and 2009. His character is voiced by Chris Evans in the 2007 TMNT movie and by Marc Thompson in the 2009 one. In addition, an independent movie called Casey Jones was also released in 2011. The film explains the origin of Casey Jones as a vigilante and includes popular characters from TMNT including April and Michelangelo.
