Turtley Awesome Videos: Going Retro With Comic-Con Ninja Rap

Sometimes it seems like there is a never ending supply of amazing videos related to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Every time I do this series, I am amazed to find something new and interesting that I had never seen before. Today, the videos I came across all had one running theme throughout – they were all showing some love for the retro Ninja Turtles.

To start off with, the global post recently put up an article which features several different versions of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song from the animated series. We've all heard it before, but depending on where you live in the world, chances are that what you heard was far different than what other fans experienced. For example, the UK version of the theme song notably removes the word “Ninja” and replaces it with “Hero.” This was because censors in the UK felt that the word “Ninja” had too many violent connotations and would not be appropriate for children. The same change was made to a lot of TMNT merchandise, including the NES game that actually helped to sell the console in England.

Regardless, if you're not from the area and you haven't really heard of them referred to as “hero turtles” before, then this slightly edited theme song is definitely going to sound strange. No matter where you live in the world, you can check out the article for yourself and find several different iterations of the song and intro in different languages and from different cultures. Needless to say, it's a pretty interesting experience!

Next up, how many of you shellheads out there remember when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show? Believe it or not, this did actually happen. Specifically, the turtles from the Out Of Their Shells Tour made the appearance, speaking with Oprah and children in the audience about what it's like to be a turtle. They also performed a few songs from their set, notably receiving a completely unimpressed response from some of the kids in the audience at the time, which is sure to amuse at least a few of the fans out there. You can find the full show on Youtube, but for the purposes of this article, we're featuring the cut down version.

Last but not least, what better way to go retro than by singing the Ninja Rap? Okay, so we've featured videos with this song quite a bit before, but nothing quite like this. Featuring notable Youtubers RealTDragon and Andre from Black Nerd Comedy, the following music video was created at this year's Dallas Comic Con when a bunch of turtle fans got together and made magic happen. For the most part, this video is mondo tubuloso, featuring cosplayers dressed up as many of the notable characters from throughout Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles history. Can you find them all? Even if you can't, you're sure to enjoy yourself while watching this amazing video.

Well, there you have it. Don't forget that you can help us share the TMNT love by sending us your favorite videos. If we like the videos you send, we'll put them in our video section under the fan zone!

My name is Justin Wren and I love to write about the TMNT! I've been a big Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan since the late 80's. Back then, I would watch the original animated series and play with the Playmates toys all the time. I have been following the boys ever since I was a kid, and I'm very happy to see them back in the limelight after all these years. Needless to say, I'm proud to be a member of the team on this awesome TMNT Fan Site!
